Avana Lake Norman’s design story is mainly based on the history of its location in Mooresville and pays homage to Dr. Selma Burke, a native of Mooresville and who received national recognition for her relief portrait of Franklin D. Roosevelt, which was the model for his image on the dime. The design, therefore, uses a plethora of circles, cylinders, and round shapes and ridges (such as the ones on the edge of the dime). The clubhouse also features a floor-to-ceiling mural with the depiction of Dr. Burke and other elements in an abstract way. We took it one step further, by playing off the lake location and used materials and colors resembling life at the lake.
