TedxCharlotte 2015
Designbar was selected to be the set and stage designer for the 5th TEDx Charlotte conference.
About the stage design:
After learning about the “FRICTION” theme of the conference, we immediately thought about how to incorporate elements of friction into the stage design. The key is to develop a stage design without taking the attention away from the speaker, yet at the same time creating a memorable visual experience for guests. We also wanted to introduce an element of giving back to the community. The logo for 2015’s “Friction” themed event incorporated arrows pointing against each other. We expanded this idea into the stage design by creating an over 10 foot wide and 6 foot tall arrow pointing upwards made out of 1000 Campbell’s soup cans. To visually even out this sculpture, we created 2 oversized chevron arrows for the opposite side of the stage pointing towards the other arrow. The obligatory red carpet, the TEDx Charlotte sign and a custom upholstered armchair for the host gave the stage the last final touch. All the soup cans were donated to the local food bank after the event concluded.
